National Day for Truth and Reconciliation-SGBS

Dear St. Giovanni Battista Scalabrini CES Parents and Guardians:

Tuesday, September 30th marks National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, originally known as Orange Shirt Day, is a Canadian Memorial Day to recognize the atrocities and multi-generational effects of the residential school system in Canada and its continued impact on the First Nations Metis and Inuit communities. It occurs every year on September 30.

There will be a number of school level initiatives, activities and lessons taking place on this day.

At the discretion of parents and guardians, we encourage all students to wear orange on this day, i.e. plain orange t-shirts, “Every Child Matters” orange shirts etc… in support of the significance of this day.

St. Giovanni Battista Scalabrini CES is committed to making “Reconciliation” visible in our school, in our classrooms, in our actions and heeding the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call to action 63.3 “Building student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect.”

Thank you for your time and attention.

Yours in Catholic Education,

Mr. William H Kwon

Principal
