Some Items of Note for the month of February include:
1) January 2026 Virtue of the Month Award Recipients
Congratulations to all of our January 2025 Virtue of the Month Award recipients for the virtue of UNITY. These are students who demonstrated with a great deal of humility, an ability to make everyone feel welcomed and very much a part of God’s family at SGBS. They continue to build each other up and celebrate each other’s differences! Well done Skyhawks!
2) Junior Boys and Girls Volleyball Teams and Tournaments on January 14 and 28th.
Our Jr. Boys and Girls Volleyball Teams and coaches Mr. J. Lima and Ms. I. Facchini did our school, St. Giovanni Battista Scalabrini CES, very proud at their respective tournaments at St. Michael’s Catholic Academy for the boys on January 14 and Our Lady of the Rosary on January 28th for the girls. Despite some fierce competition with challenging pools of teams consisting of St. Michael Academy, St. Rene Goupil, St. Joseph the Worker and Our Lady of the Rosary, our boys’ and girls’ teams came away with some hard fought victories and some close matches that will serve as valuable learning experiences! You win some, you lose some! Excellent camaraderie, fun, resilience, a growth mindset, and a spirit of teamwork are the real fruits of our Skyhawks’ labour!
3) Ready, Set, Code, Game!
SGBS welcomed Mr. Reza Beyzaei, Director of Operations from Stem Minds, who worked with our Grade 4/5, 6/7 and 7/8 students and facilitated a complete exploration and experimentation with and introduction to AI & Video game Design with MakeCode Arcade! Thank you to Ms. M. Puopolo, teacher-librarian, for making this fun day of coding possible for our Skyhawks!
4) Winter Walk Day at St. Giovanni Battista Scalabrini CES-Tuesday, February 3, 2026
St. Giovanni Battista Scalabrini CES has designated Tuesday, February 3, 2026 as Winter Walk Day! In partnership with York Region Public Health, this day is a great time for students and their families to be active outdoors and enjoy its physical and mental health benefits. If you live within walking distance to the school, consider walking to and from school! See the attached posters for more information.
